Recently read “Anyone but Him”...loved it.  Is there a sequel using these characters.  Please don’t tell me you just dropped them.  I really did enjoy the book.

FROM SHEILA:

Hi Becky

I’m glad you enjoyed Anyone But Him. You might have seen from my comments on the site that I don’t generally write sequels. I always feel I’ve put my characters through enough already! So there isn’t a sequel to this book. The only time I’ve written follow ups to novels has been in my short story collection ‘Connections’ in which I have written two stories with characters from previous novels. These are Isobel (from Isobel’s Wedding) and Bree (from He’s Got To Go).

I agree that there is certainly a lot more in Jin, Andie and Cora’s lives though!

all the best
Sheila

Just read ‘Too good to be true’ in two days and so tired, but so worth it!

I loved all the characters (except Leah!!!) and I didn’t want the book to end!

Can’t wait to stop by the shop and buy another one of your books tonight!

Hi Sheila,

I have your very first book signed by you which I was able to get personally from your lovely mum, my brother lives next door to her! I am profoundly deaf & I’ve experienced a lot over the years, growing up, school, social situations, jobs, getting married, & having my kids & like everyone I’ve had my ups & downs & everyone tells me I have a fantastic story to tell based on my life & that I should write a book! I’ve taken great inspiration from your books, and I’ve read every single one.
Can you tell me where I could start?????????? I haven’t a clue!

Kerri

FROM SHEILA:

Hi Kerry

I’m delighted you enjoy my books - and I know that my mum loves her neighbours!

Writing is something that you really have to want to do because it takes a lot of time and effort. Most people are daunted by the fact that a book is so long!!! So the best thing for you to do is divide up the book into sections and approach each one separately. That way it won’t seem like such a hard task. In your case you can divide it up into (for example) your early childhood, your family, your experiences at school, experiences getting work, meeting people and how they react to you....etc Write invidually about all these and then you can put it all together. Don’t despair if it doesn’t seem right the first time - you often have to work on the same piece for quite a while before you’re happy with it.

You might find joining a writers group useful too because writers help each other there (I was never in one but I know some other writers who love the support of the group).

It really all comes down to what feels right for you.

Finally, a copy of the Writers & Artists Yearbook is always good to have - as well as some tips about writing it also gives you lists of agents and publlishers.

Good Luck.

Sheila

hi sheila

i picked up connections from my local tesco (and to be honest i like books with nice front covers!!) and because the plot was set in “white sands” i had to buy it as my in laws live in white sands in thailand and is a very special place for me so i kind of saw it as fate that i bought this particular book!!
well can i just say i have never read a book in less than about a month because i just dont get time, but i bought connections on the thursday and fininshed it on the tuesday!! oh my god what an exciting book! i loved every story!
i spoke to one of my clients about this fantastic book i had read and when i mentioned the title, she screamed “oh yeah, sheila o flanagan, brilliant writer, i have all her books, i will bring them in for you tomorrow!”
and so she did! a big bag of them! i am now on destinations which is again another gripping book that i cant put down!
i cant wait to read the others as my client says there is a bit of all the characters from connections in most of your other books!
so i guess what a im tring to say is, thank you for these wondefrully written books, you have me hooked!!
keep up the good work and i llok forward to reading all the books in your collection!!

best wishes

Hi Sheila,

Im a big fan of your and love all your books - I read Caroline’s Sister about 5 years ago and became hooked since then.
Ive wanted to write a novel myself since I was a teenager - I just have a question I wonder if you could please answer.

Are you allowed to mention the names of real pubs or shops or clubs etc? Do I need permission, before I can use their real names?

thanks a lot and keep writing more great books please!!

Jo
