Someone Special will be out in paperback in May 2009 so you’ve a bit of a wait - but you’ll have it in time for the summer! Hope you enjoy it.

hi, i’ve just finished reading connections which i really enjoyed. i just wondered if by any chance the hotel you based the book on was the Blue Waters hotel, Antigua? i got married there in 2005 and there are so many similarities, especially as this also had ‘The Rock Villa’, a private hotel owned villa on a rocky outcrop within the hotel grounds. Either way, i enjoyed the style of book but would have loved to have known the outcome of everyones time there. many thanks, jo bronell

FROM SHEILA

Hi Jo

Did you get married in December? If so, I might have seen you because the hotel is indeed based on Blue Waters. If you check out the pix in the gallery under ‘Caribbean Connections’ you’ll recognise the sunbeds, I’m sure!

Dear Sheila,

A friend of mine called H* (she is 16) really loves writing stories and wants to get them published one day, the only problem is none of them are good, and everytine she writes a new chapter she emails it to me through an attachment, everyone agrees that her books are not up to scratch and she just says we’re all jelious, but even her parents agree aswel, i want to tell her but i’m afraid she get upset and never speak to me again, she’s my best friend and i don’t want to crush her dream...Help!

From Zarine.X

FROM SHEILA

Hi Zarine

Well, that’s a difficult situation to be in. But your friend is only 16 and it will certainly take some time for her to mature as a writer. It could be that what she’s writing now is definiately not ‘up to scratch’ but maybe some day in the future she will get it all together and things will come right for her. In the meantime you are right not to crush her dream. I think you should just say that right now her style of writing is not your kind of stuff and so maybe you’re not the best person to ask to read it!

Best of luck
Sheila

I have just finished reading Anyone but Him and have thoroughly enjoyed it as I have all your other books. Please put me out of my misery and tell me how do you pronounce Doireann, Cian and Aine.
Just one comment Andie bit her lip so many times it must be red raw by now!

FROM SHEILA

Hi Jean

I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed Anyone But Him despite Andie’s lip-biting. Sometimes in a book a character takes on a mannerism and as the writer you just don’t realise how many times she’s done it. However I’m more careful about things like that these days and I usually check through my books now to ensure that the characters don’t spend too much time biting their lips or wringing their hands or whatever!

If yougo to the Gallery part of the website http://www.sheilaoflanagan.com/blog/index.php/weblog/irish_names1/ you’ll see, on the right hand side, a link to ‘Irish Names’ which will give you some info on how to prounounce the names as well as what they mean.
Enjoy!

best wishes
Sheila
